Mexican brands like Necalli are special to me because the glove is built in a way that, no matter what way you throw your hook (even somewhat incorrectly), the glove is built in such a way that damage will be minimized and the punch almost corrects itself. Some people claim that this glove is unappealing visually, but I turn a blind eye to that because of the qualities used in padding, natural wrist protection, and a handshape that is unique to Mexican gloves.

From comfort, padding, and stitching quality to wrist support and sparring/bagwork suitability, we’ll dissect every aspect to help you make an informed decision on the Necalli Professional Sparring/Training Boxing Gloves Stitching. For those of you first visiting our site, below our introduction, you will see a radar plot of all the prominent reviews for this glove model. Although our team has decades of experience in reviewing boxing gloves, a second opinion never hurts!

Our team’s review of the glove.

Padding (85/100)

The padding in the Necalli boxing gloves is of notable quality. These gloves are not built like the typical “pillowy” sparring gloves, yet they provide a good amount of cushioning attributed to the two layers of padding (a closed-cell foam outer layer, and a natural latex dense padding layer). This ensures that the knuckles and hands are well-protected from impact, allowing users to punch with confidence, and giving each punch the traditional Mexican glove “pop”. The padding’s density is consistent, as these gloves are hand-produced in small batches, so the foam is bonded in a standardized way. Overall, these gloves are on the softer side of Mexican gloves, despite using a similar construction (composition) of padding to other Mexican gloves (this can be attributable to higher quality natural latex). Nevertheless, these gloves are a near-perfect choice to make sure that the hands are shielded from impact, whether on a heavy bag or during sparring.

Glove Fit (75/100)

The gloves offer a snug fit, adapting well to the hands after a few uses. These gloves feel secure and comfortable, even for someone with smaller hands and wrists, which is interesting, as even those with large hands may experience the hand compartment being spacious, making it suitable for those with larger hands. This adaptability in fit comes from the long cuff and ensures proper wrist alignment.

Inner-Lining Comfort (80/100)

The inner lining of the gloves is designed as the gloves from a century ago. They have a nostalgic and simple appearance. Despite this vintage look, the gloves offer a comfortable lining material that does not irritate the knuckles. Moreover, the grip bar is fantastic on these, allowing for minimal hand strain while opening and closing the fist.

Exterior Material (90/100)

Crafted from genuine leather, the Necalli Professional Training/Sparring gloves have an inherent sense of premium quality as soon as you open the box. The gloves have a robust leather aroma, underscoring the Mexican authenticity. Please note! These gloves use fine top-grain leather, which means that it is a thicker cut of leather (less processed). As a result of using top-grain leather, it is not uncommon to see natural scarring on the leather’s surface. This is not a defect, but rather it’s a tell-tale sign that you got yourself a high-quality leather glove. Also, the sheen on these gloves are almost never captured well in photographs,  and their unique leather coloring is undeniably spectacular when seen in person. Overall, these gloves are meant to last for years.

Stitching Quality (71/100)

The gloves’ stitching, albeit single-stitched, is executed with precision and care (note, you can ask Necalli to double or triple-stitch most areas of the glove if you email them). Some sections might seem a tad loose, but this lends them their signature handcrafted aura, enhancing their authentic, Mexican appeal. I love that the fabric logo tag on the glove cuff is not a hard mesh or plastic material, as the soft fabric logo is a considerate touch that ensures no abrasions or discomfort to sparring partners during close encounters.

Sparring Suitability (85/100)

Listen, I can’t openly recommend this glove to everybody. These gloves perform adequately in terms of protecting your knuckles, but might not be the first choice for those of us with chronic hand injuries. Their cushioning simply doesn’t match some of the dedicated sparring gloves available in the market. Nonetheless, if you have been good with your hands by taping or applying gel pads to your wraps, this glove is one of the best gloves on the market.

Heavy bag Suitability (80/100)

I don’t want to repeat myself again, but will say that this glove can’t be a better choice for those who do not have chronic, boxing-related hand injuries. The ‘snap’ and ‘pop’ on the heavy bag from these is magical. Punch the bag however you like, and the long cuff will protect you (not that the long cuff also plays a major role in ensuring that the force of impact is dispersed uniformly, further safeguarding the hands and wrists from potential harm).

Necalli Professional Sparring/Training Gloves Overview

The Necalli Professional Boxing Gloves, handcrafted in Mexico, offer a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern functionality. While they shine in areas like padding, wrist support, and heavy bag suitability, they might not be the top choice for dedicated sparring sessions. Made from genuine cow leather and latex foam, they exude authenticity and quality, but potential buyers should be aware that the knuckle protection may not be sufficient for boxers with past hand injuries. Overall, they’re a solid choice for those valuing craftsmanship and protection but might require some consideration for sparring.
