Our team’s review of the glove.

Padding (92/100)

The Phenom SG210 gloves utilize a multi-layer foam padding over the knuckle area, which is of medium to softer density. The inner padding is composed of a medium-dense premium foam material which helps secure your hand in the glove. The outer layer of the padding feels soft to the touch and is most likely a closed-cell foam, which when compressed becomes denser and more protective. This dual nature of the outer foam makes it suitable for both sparring and heavy bag work. Most importantly, the grip bar is fairly dense and a good thickness, which makes fist-making easy (without creating too much hand strain).

PHENOM SG-210 SPARRING GLOVES PADDING

Glove Fit (95/100)

Featuring a longer cuff and a profile that’s about medium in terms of width, the gloves are very well-balanced. They fit snugly, and according to the reviewer, they are the most comfortable gloves from Phenom that they’ve tried. The deep finger compartment, excellent thumb positioning, and overall ergonomics ensure that the glove fits perfectly, almost as if it was tailor-made for a medium to large-sized hand.

PHENOM SG-210 SPARRING GLOVES LINING

Inner-Lining Comfort (93/100)

The gloves boast a smooth tricot liner that enhances comfort. The finger compartment is deep, offering a broken-in feel right from the start. The thumb fit is perfect, ensuring no jamming or discomfort. The width of the finger compartment is just right, neither too narrow nor too wide. The tricot liner’s smooth and silky texture ensures that the hand slides in comfortably, with no bunching up. Moreover, the liner covers the stitching, eliminating any potential discomfort against the fingertips.

Exterior Material (94/100)

Crafted from full genuine leather, the gloves exude quality. The leather, with its semi-gloss finish, is smooth to the touch. The satin finish adds an elegant touch, making the gloves not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

PHENOM SG-210 SPARRING GLOVES STITCHING

Stitching Quality (95/100)

Every stitch on the gloves speaks of precision and care. The stitching looks tight and clean, with the double stitching pattern adding to the glove’s durability. All holes are punched out of the leather cleanly, ensuring no rough edges. The reviewer found no issues with craftsmanship, praising the clean and well-executed stitching, including the embroidery.

Wrist Support (89/100)

The gloves come with about a half-inch of soft foam against the hand, providing comfort. On the back side, for wrist support, there’s a stiffer density foam. While the cuff is on the longer side, offering more coverage, I felt that a little extra padding on the front side of the wrist could have enhanced the snugness and support.

Sparring Suitability (95/100)

With ‘sparring’ in the name of the glove, the Phenom SG-210’s offer boxers and their sparring partners some of the best protection money can buy. I truly feel that these gloves offer fantastic for money. The foam is protective without being too stiff, the thumb design and alignment to the hand compartment prevents thumb-jamming issues that are so common in sparring. The gloves allow for excellent fist formation, ensuring punches land on the two front knuckles, making them ideal for sparring.

Heavy-Bag Suitability (90/100)

The SG-210s are versatile and can be used for mitts and the heavy bag. The foam composition is perfect for landing punches on a heavy bag given the medium dense inner padding that is relatively thick. The padding, although soft on the outer layer, becomes denser when compressed, ensuring protection against even densely filled bags.

Phenom SG-210 Pro Sparring Gloves Overview

The Phenom SG210 boxing gloves score high in terms of quality, comfort, protection, and durability. Suitable for both sparring and heavy bag work, they offer value for their price. Given their features and quality, they are a worthy investment for any boxer.
