On March 16, 1996, Prince Naseem Hamed successfully defended his World Boxing Organization Featherweight Title against Said Lawal at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Weighing in at 125.75 lbs, just slightly heavier than Lawal’s 125 lbs, Hamed demonstrated his notorious punching power by knocking out his opponent at just 35 seconds into the first round of a scheduled 12-round fight. This fight cemented Prince Naseem as a truly heavy fisted fighter with unparallel KO power in his division.

 

The bout was officiated by Referee Ismael Wiso Fernandez, with William Connors, Luis Pabon, and Jose Hiram Rivera serving as judges. This marked Hamed’s first defense of his WBO Featherweight Title and added another quick and decisive victory to his impressive career.
